1. Extra Body Hair (Yes… Even There)
Keywords: pregnancy body hair, pregnancy hormones, Hertfordshire maternity photo tips
One of the top things mums share is:
“I swear I turned into a fuzzy peach during pregnancy!”
Hormone changes can cause hair to appear on your belly, face, back, and other surprises. One of my clients developed a hairy chest.
Good news: it’s temporary and usually settles after birth.
Photoshoot tip:
There’s no need to stress before your maternity session. I use natural, flattering retouching to keep you looking polished—while still looking like you.
2. Excess Saliva (A Surprisingly Common Symptom)
Keywords: early pregnancy symptoms, Hertfordshire maternity session advice
Excess saliva (yes, drooling!) is more common than people realise, especially in the first trimester. It’s harmless and usually fades.
Photoshoot tip:
Bring water, mints, or a small tissue pack to your session. We’ll take everything at your pace so you feel comfortable.
3. Skin Changes: Acne, Dark Patches & Redness
Keywords: pregnancy skin changes, melasma pregnancy, North London maternity photographer
Your skin may go through its own pregnancy journey—acne, pigmentation, redness, or that famous “mask of pregnancy.”
You’re still glowing, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
I offer gentle, natural retouching that softens uneven tone while keeping your photos authentic.
4. The Postpartum Night Sweats
Keywords: postpartum symptoms, newborn photography Hertfordshire
After birth, your hormones rebalance quickly—leading to increased sweating, especially at night.
It’s very normal and usually short-lived.
Photoshoot tip:
For newborn sessions (either in-home or at my Hertfordshire studio), wearing breathable, comfortable layers will help keep you cool and relaxed.
5. Postpartum Hair Shedding
Keywords: postpartum hair loss, North London newborn photography preparation
Around three to four months postpartum, many mums experience increased hair shedding. While it can be worrying, it’s simply your hair returning to its normal cycle.
Photoshoot tip:
Soft waves, a loose bun, or a simple blow-dry all photograph beautifully. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to guide you on styles that look lovely in camera.
6. Your Shoe Size Might Change
Keywords: pregnancy body changes, Hertfordshire pregnancy journey
Thanks to the hormone relaxin, your feet may grow during pregnancy—and sometimes stay that way. A fun excuse for new shoes!
Photoshoot tip:
Most of my maternity photos are taken bare-foot. It's more comfortable, there's less wobbles, the maternity dresses usually cover you feet and it's a great excuse to get a pedicure especially at a time where your feet may be getting neglected cause you can no longer reach your feet :)
