Cake smash photoshoot of little 1 year old girl by Sonya Harrap

Cake smash photo-shoots really are so much fun. They are a wonderful way to mark a 1st or 2nd birthday and really do make for wonderful keepsakes and great thank you cards following a childs birthday.

I have photographed a few hundred babies smashing into cakes and as such I have learnt a few tips along the way to get the best out of a cake smash photoshoot.

I know that patience and fun are both required when working with babies and young children. I work at your childs pace to get the best out of them.

Frequently Asked Questions.

When should I book?

I offer cake smash sessions all year round. If you have a particular date in mind then please do book with plenty of notice as sessions get booked up quite quickly.

This is especially true if you would like to book on a childs birthday or would like the photos ready for a childs birthday party

How do I book a Cake smash photoshoot?

Booking is easy. Once we have selected a date and time for your Cake smash shoot I ask for a £20 deposit top book and then the balance on the day of the session.

What happens after my session

Following your session we will book in a date 2 - 3 weeks after your photo-shoot for you to come back and have a viewing of your fully edited photos. You will be able to choose the photos that you would like in your package and any others that you may want. I will of course be available to discuss options with you should you need advice on products and photo combinations.

I have a theme in mind- could you do this for me?

I always discuss themes and colour options with my clients a few weeks before a cake smash session. I have a lot of props and colour options at the studio but for something very specific, it's always good to give me a few weeks so I can source what I need for the session.

What type of cake shoud I get?

As your baby will need to break into the cake I always suggest a cake covered in soft buttercream as opposed to royal icing; this is also great for making a real mess, which is for once what we want them to do :)

The style of the cake is up to you. It doesnt have to be a professionally made cake. I know a few supermarkets that do great cakes suitable for a birth cakesmash session. Or you can make one.. the choice is yours.

Is the bubble bath included at the end?

Yes. And its a lot of fun

Use of your photos

These photos are for your personal use. Time to time I will use images for the promotion of my work. Please advise if you would prefer against this. Please note that copyright remains with the photographer.

what to bring with you to the
photo-shoot
-Cake. Your cake can be of any size and design that you wish.
Please avoid chocolate cake and please get butter cream rather than hard icing as this is easier for little hands to mash.

- Change of clothes. I have cake smash outfits here for your baby or you can bring your own. We can discuss options before the photoshoot.

-Change of clothes for Parents as these photo-shoots can get quite messy.

- Snacks and drink for baby.

- Bubble bath and towel for the bubble splash section of the photoshoot.
